A House that is Always a Home

The Neri’s house sits proud,

the olive green shutters winking hello

and a fresh, pristine lawn manicured by hand

greet me: familiar as her smile,

her warm hug hello.

Inside my shoes kick off, one after another.

We enjoy her homemade pizzelle cookies

dressed with sifted powdered sugar.

We laugh together

while Deano and rest of the Rat Pack

serenade us in the kitchen

where she taught me the secrets to her

Italian Sauce and Salad Dressing.

Always laughing,

always content with her love,

just like a mother to me.
